Engine Design Plans and Ideas
Displacement: Starting with 390 c.i.d. - My plan is to change bore and stroke to match that of a 428 Cobra Jet. Or just buy a 428 motor...
Top End: Either Edelbrock Performer RPM FE heads and intake or find Cobra Jet heads. Jon Kaase makes Super Cobra Jet heads that sure look nice.
Horsepower and Torque: Would like a minimum of 600 hp at the rear wheels with the torque obviously being much higher than that.
Engine Compartment:
- Aluminum radiator w/electric fan (thermostatic clutch with viscuous drive fan)
- Radiator overflow tank
- Some type of monte carlo bar for stability/stiffness
- Shaker air intake
- Everything will be polished and ported
- Will be using Evans NPG+ Coolant from evanscooling.com
- Convert to r134a A/C including a "modern" compressor
- High efficiency water pump with balanced flow thermostat
Transmission:
- Currently have a C6
- Would like to convert to 4-speed toploader or 5-speed Tremec in the future
Rear End:
- Keep the 9-in. rear
- Convert to locking
- Change gear from 3.00 to 3.50 or 3.91?
